Our own patent interest
TIS and Innovue hold a UAV patent portfolio, applied for by both, in product-technology fields. We also advise UV makers on their patents, so we state the interest plainly:
- We show advisory clients the portfolio's technical fields before work starts, and check them against your product fields. Where they overlap, you choose how to proceed.
- We do not assert portfolio patents against our advisory or MRO customers.
- The advisory team does not see licensing negotiations, and your confidential information is never used for filings or licensing.
- The portfolio has nothing to do with our maintenance business. A portfolio licence is never a condition of an MRO contract, and the two are signed and invoiced separately.
The full governance arrangements for the portfolio are being finalised with Innovue. We will update this page when they are.
Our partners
- Innovue provides the 180M-patent database behind our patent work, is a co-applicant on the UAV patent portfolio, and is a shareholder in TIS.
- Suntek Group / PG Union provide service capacity for Sustain.
- Taiwan leading UAV manufacturer is contracted to train and certify service partners to UV standard.
We don't take referral fees from patent firms and keep no preferred-firm list. Firms are recommended case by case, on technical fit.
Where the market figures come from
Procurement, budget, output and export figures on the site are TIS research compiled from Taiwan government budget and procurement announcements, with data through 2026-05-16. "9 of 16" comes from TIS's landscape study of 16 leading foreign UAV makers and their Taiwan patent holdings. Plans and budgets change; each figure is as of that date.
What a TIS rating is
Patent Strength Grading on our Insights pages grades a patent from Tier S to Tier D, with a score built from 50 indicators — most computed from patent records, the rest graded by closed-database AI tools reading the patent text. Our analysts direct the work and review what comes out of it.
A rating is a position, not a verdict. A patent is ranked against a reference pool of patents held by TIS and its partners — patents we also license. So a rank tells you where a patent sits against that pool, not against every patent in the world, and it is not an independent benchmark. The pool re-ranks as patents are granted and lapse, so a number can move even when nothing about the patent has.
Patent data comes from Innovue's 180M-patent database. Like every patent dataset it carries publication delays, incomplete family records and the occasional transcription error, and we don't verify every underlying record ourselves.
